Conestoga Golf Club sits at the north edge of Mesquite inside the Sun City Mesquite Del Webb 55-and-over community, on a piece of ground that climbs into the desert hills above I-15. Gary Panks routed the eighteen in 2009 — the newest of the four Mesquite courses, opened nine years after Wolf Creek and thirteen years after CasaBlanca — and the routing takes advantage of the elevation in a way none of the other Mesquite layouts do.

Panks' Routing in the Sun City Hills

Gary Panks, the architect best known for his Phoenix-area work and the redesigning of Pinon Hills (one of the highest-rated public courses in New Mexico), built the course across rolling desert hills that frame the Sun City Mesquite community. Several of the par-4s play uphill toward the back nine; the par-3 17th has a forced carry across a desert wash that gets cited as the signature tee shot. From the championship tees the course stretches to 7,232 yards at par 72, with a 137 slope rating.

Troon-Managed Daily-Fee in a Retirement Community

Conestoga is the only Troon-managed course in Mesquite — Troon is the international golf-management firm that runs many of the higher-end public-access desert courses across the Southwest. The daily-fee model coexists with preferred-rate access for Sun City Mesquite residents. The on-site 1880 Grille handles dining and event hosting, and the clubhouse is built into the rhythm of the active-adult community.

The Newest of the Mesquite Four

Mesquite's four major public courses sit in two pairs by era. CasaBlanca (1996) and Wolf Creek (2000) are the original resort-tier courses, both built as the Mesquite golf market expanded in the late 1990s. Falcon Ridge (2004) and Conestoga (2009) are the second wave, both in or adjacent to active-adult community developments.

For visitors stitching together a multi-day card, Conestoga is most often paired with Wolf Creek as the destination-tier rounds. CasaBlanca and Falcon Ridge fill out the cost-friendly tier. The drive from St. George Regional Airport to Conestoga runs about 45 minutes south on I-15, and the Sun City community is a few minutes off the highway.
