Dr. Steven G. Starr has been Southern Utah's only board-certified endodontist since he opened his private practice in St. George in 1994. More than thirty years later, that remains the case — he is still, as the practice site states plainly, the only Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics practicing in the region. Board certification in endodontics requires written and oral examination plus case presentation to a credentialing board; it is not automatic with specialty residency and most practicing endodontists have not pursued it.
Dr. Starr's training ran through the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, followed by a two-year advanced endodontic residency at USC. He practiced as a general dentist in Northern California for four years before the specialty residency — which is clinically meaningful because it means his case management decisions are informed by an understanding of the general dentist's position, not just the endodontist's narrow scope. He has lectured at American Association of Endodontists conferences and served as president of the Southern Utah Dental Society.
The practice is at 1054 E Riverside Drive, Suite 203, in the Trailside Building near the River Road corridor. The scope is deliberately focused: root canal therapy, root canal retreatment, and endodontic surgery — nothing outside the specialty.
