Rotary Club of St. George

Rotary Club #1079 was chartered in St. George on January 29, 1931 — one of the oldest continuous service organizations in the 435 footprint, predating the state highway system, Zion National Park's south entrance road, and the first St. George Chamber of Commerce. The club has run through cotton-farming collapses, two world wars, and the complete demographic transformation of Washington County from a rural agricultural community to the fastest-growing metropolitan area in the United States.

What Ninety-Five Years of Projects Looks Like

The Rotary SK8 Park is a City of St. George facility built with club partnership — a visible, permanent public amenity with a rotary signature. The 7-acre Encampment Mall on the Dixie State University campus was developed with club involvement. The Dictionary Project has delivered approximately 25,000 paperback dictionaries to third-grade students in Washington County schools since 2004. Since 2021, the club has delivered toys, clothing, and food each Christmas to the tribal community of Halchita on the Navajo Nation, valued at approximately $10,000 per year. The Guatemala Stoves Project extends the club's footprint to international development. The Dixie Rotary Bowl — once the nation's premier junior college bowl game — was a Rotary-originated institution.

Meeting at the Abbey Inn

The club meets Mondays at noon at the Abbey Inn Best Western Conference Center. That's the working format: a weekly lunch meeting where members report project status, hear a speaker, and write checks. The Rotary Foundation holds the St. George club's charitable assets; the club itself is the social structure that generates them.
