Roger Olcott Insurance Agency, Inc.

Cedar City, UT · Listed in the 435 Alliance — a Southern Utah register of vetted, locally owned businesses.

Roger D. Olcott opened his Cedar City insurance agency in 1990, fresh out of Southern Utah University, and has been running it from South Main Street ever since. The agency has an unusual structural detail that the register should surface plainly: it markets as an independent agency on its own site, and Olcott also runs a Farmers Insurance branded agency at the same address with his name on the door.

A dual-brand structure, openly disclosed

The dual-brand reality is not uncommon among long-tenured western insurance offices, and it reflects how some Farmers agents have historically been allowed to write outside-the-Farmers business through a separate independent entity. For most clients, that means: if Farmers prices the policy best, Olcott can write it under the Farmers brand; if a different carrier prices it better, the same agent can write it through his independent shell. The structure works for clients, but it does mean a register’s framing has to be careful — this is not a fully independent agency in the way Roberts or Hansen is, and it is not a fully captive agency either.

Thirty-five years on Main Street

Olcott himself has Cedar City roots going back to his SUU degree and the 1990 agency launch immediately afterward. Thirty-five years on South Main, under one publicly named operator, is a meaningful continuity signal regardless of the brand structure. The agency has watched Cedar City’s slow growth across that span — university enrollment expanding, the Shakespeare Festival pulling more visitors, ranching operations changing hands — and has stayed at the same address through it.

Disclosure

The agency’s own site and the Farmers locator both confirm the dual-brand reality. Olcott is publicly named in both contexts. Producer license verification through the Utah Insurance Department is straightforward.

How to read this entry

The honest framing: a long-tenured Cedar City independent-and-captive hybrid agency, with thirty-five years under a publicly named operator. Both halves of the structure on the page. A client who specifically wants a fully independent agency should pair this listing with another from the file; a client looking for the Cedar City agent who actually picks up the phone is well-served either way.
