Ogden’s Flooring & Design

St. George, UT (multi-location) · Listed in the 435 Alliance — a Southern Utah register of vetted, locally owned businesses.

Ogden’s Flooring & Design was founded in 1974 by Steve Ogden and has grown over five decades into a twelve-location Utah flooring retailer, with stores from Roy and Taylorsville in the north, through the Wasatch Front, down to Cedar City and St. George at the southern end. The St. George store sits in the east-side commercial corridor near the Riverside Drive interchange — one of two Southern Utah locations, with Cedar City being the other.

Fifty years from a single shop

The company’s arc is the classic Utah family-business growth curve: founder opens a single store, family adds locations one at a time over decades, eventually a regional retailer emerges that’s no longer a single-location independent but also isn’t a national chain or a private-equity rollup. Ogden’s appears to remain under the same family ownership across all twelve stores, which is the structural distinction between a regional family business and a private-investor-acquired retailer.

Full retail flooring stack, plus mobile showroom

The product mix is the full retail set: carpet, hardwood, laminate, luxury vinyl, tile, SPC, and granite countertops. In-home quotes and a mobile showroom service let the company reach clients who don’t want to come into the brick-and-mortar location — useful in a Southern Utah radius where the nearest store can be forty minutes away. The lifetime labor warranty on carpet is a real competitive differentiator at the retail level.

The “locally owned” question at twelve locations

The directory’s call on Ogden’s is genuinely a judgment one. Utah-founded, named founder, single-family ownership across all locations, Southern Utah employees in the local store. But it isn’t a single-location independent, and the register’s “locally owned” framing should reflect that distinction openly rather than collapsing it.

A reasonable directory framing: include Ogden’s as a Utah-founded, multi-location regional retailer with a deep Southern Utah presence — Cedar City and St. George together — rather than as a single-location local independent. Both descriptions can be true; only one is accurate.

For the 435, Ogden’s is the regional name plenty of locals have grown up walking past in both Cedar and St. George. The directory’s job is to say what it actually is.
