Jim Savage started building in Washington County in 1981 — back when Hurricane was orchards and alfalfa, the trip to St. George took half an hour on a two-lane highway, and the people building houses in either town generally lived in one of them. Forty-four years later, Jim Savage Construction LLC is still based in Hurricane, and it is one of the longest-tenured general contractors operating anywhere in the 435 region.

The brand’s recent marketing language is “Modern Desert Minimalism,” which reads as a deliberate pivot away from the Tuscan-heavy aesthetic that dominated St. George custom homes and remodels from roughly 2002 through 2018 — the columns, the heavy stucco, the painted-tile insets that turned every primary bath into a Mediterranean villa fantasy.
