Fremont River Guides

Shawn Saunders has been guiding fly fishing in Southern Utah for nearly 30 years. He was a golf professional before the rivers pulled him off course; the film "A River Runs Through It" sparked the shift, and he has been working the central Utah drainages professionally since the early 1990s. He founded Fremont River Guides in 2001, and the company celebrated its 20-year mark in 2021 while Saunders was in the middle of writing a book about his years in the field.

Operating from a P.O. Box in Torrey and covering the Fremont River drainage, the Sevier River system, Boulder Mountain, Fishlake Mountain, Thousand Lakes Mountain, and waters adjacent to Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, and Zion, Fremont River Guides works across more terrain than almost any other Southern Utah outfitter. Trip options run 2, 4, and 8 hours — wade fishing, float tubing, UTV remote-access water, and Jon boat trips for 1 to 3 anglers. Saunders has been published in "25 Best National Parks to Fly Fish" and has made recurring television appearances, though what reviewers consistently note is the same thing he says himself: a great guide knows when to be quiet.
